Finding a Motorhome to Hire for Touring the UK Coastline

If you are a person who likes to stay in the United Kingdom for your holiday you may find yourself on the horns of a dilemma. With so many coastal resorts to visit, which one do you go for?

Would it be Blackpool? With its landmark tower, its Golden Mile, its famous illuminations and glorious Pleasure Beach – Blackpool, in the North West of England, is quite easily the UK’s most popular seaside resort. During the summer it is a major entertainment hub, with many of the country’s biggest showbiz names performing variety shows at the Grand Theatre.

On the other hand you may wish to head south to visit Brighton, the larger part of the city of Brighton and Hove, in East Sussex. Whilst its historic Lanes were the only part of the town to survive the attentions of early sixteenth century French raiders, the Marina, the Royal Pavilion and the Palace Pier later came aboard to create a familiar and hugely popular resort down on the southern coast of England.

Back in the north the civil parish and port of Whitby, in Yorkshire, has a rich tourist and maritime heritage. It is where Caedmon, the earliest English poet, resided and where Captain Cook first learned seamanship. A deeply historic centre of fishing and whaling activity, Whitby nonetheless attracts large numbers of holidaymakers and is one of Britain’s most visited coastal resorts. In the summer it hosts the famous Whitby Regatta over three days in August.

The writer’s personal favourite seaside town is Margate in Kent, notwithstanding the effective closure as a holiday venue of the once lovely neighbouring town of Cliftonville, with its long and peaceful Esplanade and its lovely chalk cliffs, pubs, arcades and gift shops.

Of course if you are thinking of booking a hotel or even a modest bed and breakfast you will wish to consider which of these resorts, or of the great many others that have not been mentioned, appeals most to your taste. On the other hand you could hire a motor home or camper van, save on the hotel bills and tour the coastline moving along from one resort to another, enjoying the unique character of each along on your travels.

Finding a camper van to hire is in all likelihood the cheapest and yet most efficient and cost effective way to visit the various resorts along the English coastline. It allows you to stay for as long as you like in any place that takes your fancy, but to move along to someplace else as soon as you feel so inclined.

Hiring a Motorhome to See Stars at the 2012 Isle of Wight Festival

Consider the names Brice Springsteen, Noel Gallagher, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Madness, Joan Armatrading. All of them truly massive stars, and all of them listed to appear at this year's Isle of Wight Festival in June.

The Festival itself has a magnificent history, stretching back to 1968. In that year, and in 1969, it built itself a reputation in the music world by playing host to such acts as Joe Cocker, The Move, T. Rex and Bob Dylan. In what was probably the most famous Festival of all, some 600,000-700,000 people attended in 1970, more than at Woodstock, and all this on an island with a population of only perhaps 100,000 people. Performers included The Who, Joan Baez, Free, Emerson Lake & Palmer and of course the late and legendary Jimi Hendrix.

Sadly logistical and technical difficulties determined that 1970 would be the last of a short but memorable series of events.

At the time it was believed that the Isle of Wight Festival would become but a memory, an enduring and nostalgic taste of what could have been without the difficulties it brought in its wake.

That was until, in 2002, a smaller, tighter and better organised event, blessed with the benefit of thirty-two years of technological improvements and organisational experience, the Festival was launched once again to the sounds of Robert Plant singing Hey Joe as a tribute to Hendrix.

This year's then will be the eleventh event since the relaunch, the fourteenth overall. All of the Island's many hotels, caravan sites, bed and breakfasts and guest houses will be expecting to take full advantage of the situation by accommodating some of the visitors. The ferries will be filled to the funnels. Some will bring their tents and find a nice soft spot somewhere after they arrive.

One option is to find a motorhome to rent before going across. Hiring a motorhome, or camper van to some, is an inexpensive, practical and versatile option that enables the hirer to find the best possible location, to sleep over comfortably, and to travel around the Island and visit some of its many sights and attractions along the way. It can be taken across on the ferry and driven right back to its point of hire.

When looking for a campervan to hire it pays to find a supplier that has established a reputation, having been in the business for a while, and where one may be sure of receiving some useful help and advice about where to go and how best to take advantage of the freedom it provides.
